Durham Paddling Trips

Paddle around the heart of Durham city on a Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) or by Canoe. You can find out a bit more information about our trips by clicking on the questions below.

Who are these Paddling trips for?

All of our Durham city paddling trips are open to the public and we welcome everyone.

We ask that any children are accompanied on the water with an adult & we do have some age limits for younger paddlers:

Canoe Trips: We welcome accompanied children from the age of 7 and up

SUP Trips: We welcome accompanied children from the age of 14 and up

How are the Canoe & SUP paddling trips different?

Typically our Canoe experiences are a more relaxed trip and we try to stay dry for these trips. There will a few paddlers in each canoe meaning that the workload is shared. These trips are perfect for families!

Our SUP paddling trips in Durham can be a little more challenging with everyone on their own board. For these trips we dress to get wet, just in case we end up in the water. These trips are better suited to teenagers and adults

Do I need experience?

You don’t need to have any experience to come and join us on a paddling trip. It is useful if you have done some before but it is not essential. This is more useful for our SUP trips to help you make the make the most of the experience. You don’t need to be a SUP pro but we suggest you have given SUP a go previously, even if that is only a quick taster session.

How far will we be paddling?

This paddle will be set out from our launching site at Durham Armature Rowing Club. Typically we aim to reach Prebends bridge in the heart of the city with views to the Cathedral. All this before turning around and paddling back to our launching point at Durham Armature Rowing Club. This takes us on a journey of around 5 km’s.

What equipment is provided?

We will provide all of the specialist equipment as well as all the necessary safety equipment. You can find more information on what to wear and bring on each trip by taking a look at the details in the booking calendar.

We suggest you bring a drink and a snack to take on the water with you. Your instructor will help to make sure we can carry these with us whilst we paddle.
